Tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz made a surprise appearance at Miami’s Chase Stadium as Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to their first-ever MLS Cup final. The world number one, currently in his off-season, joined thousands of fans for a historic night and personally presented the Eastern Conference championship trophy to Messi after Inter Miami dismantled New York City FC with a dominant 5–1 victory.
Alcaraz arrived early and greeted the Inter Miami squad as they walked onto the pitch, exchanging warm moments with Messi before catching up with Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez. The six-time Grand Slam champion was also gifted an Inter Miami jersey, reflecting his growing global stature beyond tennis. Despite being a Real Madrid supporter, Alcaraz showed admiration for Messi’s greatness, highlighting the mutual respect between icons of different sports.
Following the semifinal victory, Alcaraz stepped on stage to hand Messi the Eastern Conference trophy. The two superstars shared a celebratory embrace as the stadium roared, marking a crossover moment between world-class football and elite tennis. Their connection traces back to their meeting at the 2023 Laureus Sports Awards, where both were honoured for their achievements.
On the pitch, Inter Miami were unstoppable. Argentinian winger Tadeo Allende stole the spotlight with a sensational hat-trick, scoring seven goals across Miami’s last three knockout matches. His red-hot form positions him as the key weapon for the MLS Cup final. Inter Miami will now face the winner of the Western Conference clash between San Diego FC and Vancouver Whitecaps, giving Messi a golden chance to lift his first MLS championship.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, is enjoying a well-earned break after a phenomenal 2025 season, where he lifted two Grand Slam titles and reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking. Once his downtime concludes, preparations will begin for a massive 2026 campaign.
