Many women notice that the diet and workout strategies that worked effortlessly in their 20s suddenly lose effectiveness in their 30s. Even with daily step goals clean eating and regular gym sessions progress can stall. According to celebrity nutritionist and fitness coach Prateek Kumar the issue is rarely a lack of discipline. Instead he points to biological shifts chronic stress and low muscle mass as the real barriers.
Prateek who has worked with actors such as Shahid Kapoor Sonakshi Sinha Ileana D’Cruz and Rajkummar Rao explains that many women in their 30s are “overloaded and under recovered.” Professional demands family responsibilities financial pressures and emotional stress accumulate at the same time that hormonal fluctuations begin to shift. Changes in oestrogen and progesterone can affect sleep cravings and fat storage while elevated cortisol levels keep the body in a constant stress response. When recovery is compromised the body resists fat loss even if nutrition and exercise appear consistent.
He describes this phenomenon as stress stacking where multiple life pressures compound and disrupt metabolic balance. When the nervous system never fully relaxes the body prioritises survival over fat loss making progress feel frustratingly slow.
Another key factor is muscle mass. Many women grew up focusing primarily on cardio and calorie restriction rather than strength training. As a result they enter their 30s with relatively low muscle levels. Muscle plays a crucial role in metabolic health improving insulin sensitivity hormone balance and long-term calorie burn. Without sufficient muscle fat loss becomes significantly more difficult. Years of restrictive dieting combined with low protein intake can further slow metabolism while common nutrient deficiencies such as iron vitamin B12 and vitamin D often go unnoticed.
Rather than pursuing another short-term diet Prateek recommends shifting the focus to recovery and strength. Adequate protein intake correcting deficiencies improving sleep quality and incorporating strength training at least three times a week can gradually rebuild metabolic resilience. He emphasises that sustainable transformation takes time often two to three years of consistent effort rather than a quick 30 day reset.
His core message is clear women in their 30s are not failing. They are frequently under fueled under muscled and overstressed and addressing those root causes is what truly unlocks long-term fat loss and energy.
