Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited historical epic The Odyssey has dropped its very first official poster, even though the film is more than a year away from its global release. The new promotional poster is already creating waves across the internet after it was spotted at AMC theatres in the US and subsequently leaked in high-resolution online.
The visually striking poster places the title The Odyssey boldly in the center with the acclaimed director’s name above it. It proudly declares that the movie was “Shot entirely with IMAX film cameras,” making it the first-ever feature to be filmed exclusively on IMAX — an ambitious and expensive feat. The tagline “Defy the Gods” sits prominently right above the release date of July 17, 2026, setting the tone for what fans can expect from Nolan’s latest masterpiece.
The dark and intense design features minimal imagery but leaves a lasting impact. It shows the severed head of an ancient Greek god statue at the bottom, surrounded by smoke and sparks, perfectly echoing the film’s core theme of mortals challenging divine powers. The text elements in light blue and red against a deep black background heighten the sense of drama and mythological scale.
The Odyssey draws inspiration from Homer’s legendary epic poem and tells the story of Odysseus, the heroic king of Ithaca, as he battles mythical creatures and powerful gods on his long voyage home after the Trojan War. Fans will see Matt Damon portraying Odysseus while Tom Holland steps into the role of Telemachus, Odysseus’ courageous son. The star-studded cast is packed with Hollywood heavyweights including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Elliot Page.
With this haunting yet compelling first glimpse, Nolan promises audiences an IMAX spectacle that dares to challenge the might of the Gods and reimagines an ancient tale for the modern screen.
