Wimbledon 2025 is set to kick off on June 30 with all eyes on World No. 1 Coco Gauff who is ready to make headlines again after her memorable victory over Aryna Sabalenka at the 2025 French Open in Paris. The 21-year-old American star secured her second Grand Slam title adding to her 2023 US Open triumph and continues to prove herself as a dominant force in women’s tennis.
Following her win Gauff found herself in the middle of controversy due to some remarks made by Sabalenka during the post-match press conference. When asked about it during her Wimbledon media interaction Gauff did not hold back. “It was very weird. I’m very transparent. At first the situation felt strange because the apology took a while. I thought it would come sooner. I won’t lie there was temptation to respond but honestly I just want us to move forward stay positive and be happy here.”
Gauff further explained she did not want to add fuel to any online hate. “I didn’t want to push more negativity into the world. I feel people went too far and it became less about accountability and more about personal attacks which I think was unnecessary. I’d rather promote peace and positivity instead of hate.”
Since the incident Sabalenka has publicly apologised to Gauff through a video and the two even appeared together in a fun viral TikTok dance that Wimbledon has shared to show they’ve moved past the feud. Gauff who now holds ten career singles titles including two Grand Slams and nine doubles trophies will begin her Wimbledon 2025 journey facing Dayana Yastremska in the opening round aiming to maintain her dominance this season.
