Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has expanded his presence in the world of football ownership after securing a 25 percent stake in Spanish second-division side UD Almeria. The investment was made through his newly formed entity CR7 Sports Investments although financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
In a statement issued by his holding company Ronaldo described the move as part of his long-term vision within professional football ownership. He emphasised his desire to remain closely connected to the sport beyond his playing career and expressed confidence in Almeria’s growth potential.
UD Almeria currently competes in Spain’s Segunda Division and sits near the top of the table as it pushes for promotion back to La Liga after its last appearance in the Spanish top flight in 2024. The club is owned by Saudi group SMC and continues to strengthen its sporting and commercial ambitions.
Ronaldo who previously spent nine successful years at Real Madrid and became the club’s all-time leading scorer brings extensive knowledge of Spanish football to the project. Club president Mohamed Al Khereiji indicated that Ronaldo’s role could extend beyond financial backing particularly in supporting youth development and long-term strategy.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League since 2023 and remains active at the highest level. He recently returned to the starting lineup following transfer window tensions and has been in strong scoring form.
Off the pitch Ronaldo continues to grow his global business portfolio. In October he became the first professional footballer to be listed in Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index. As he prepares for what could be his sixth and potentially final FIFA World Cup appearance next summer the Portuguese star is clearly positioning himself for a lasting legacy in football both on and off the field.
