Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes World’s First Football Billionaire After Massive Al-Nassr Deal

Date:

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially made history by becoming the first footballer to cross the billionaire mark, as confirmed by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The 40-year-old Portuguese legend has now joined the elite billionaire list, with Bloomberg estimating his total net worth at around $1.4 billion (₹12,352 crore), derived from his remarkable football career, global brand endorsements, and high-profile investments.

According to the report, Ronaldo has earned over $550 million (₹4,869 crore) in salaries since 2002, representing top clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. His decade-long partnership with Nike, worth nearly $18 million (₹159 crore) annually, and other major endorsement deals with brands like Armani, Castrol, and Clear, contributed an additional $175 million (₹1,554 crore) to his fortune.

The major leap in Ronaldo’s wealth came after his stunning 2023 move to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he reportedly earns $200 million (₹17,760 crore) per year in tax-free salary and bonuses, along with a $30 million signing bonus (₹2,664 crore). Recently, he extended his stay with Al-Nassr by signing a two-year contract renewal, bringing in over $400 million (₹35,520 crore), keeping him with the club until his 42nd birthday.

While Lionel Messi remains one of the top earners in world football, Bloomberg noted that Ronaldo’s financial empire has surpassed his long-time rival. Messi’s career salary is estimated at $600 million (₹53,280 crore), with his current Inter Miami deal including a guaranteed $20 million (₹1,776 crore) annual salary and future ownership stake in the club, which could further boost his net worth post-retirement.

Ronaldo’s achievement cements his place not just as a football icon but also as a global business mogul, setting a benchmark for financial success in sports history. His combination of athletic excellence, branding power, and strategic investments has made him one of the wealthiest athletes in the world.
