Demi Moore Reflects on Tom Cruise’s Reaction to Her Pregnancy During A Few Good Men Filming

Date:

Hollywood veteran Demi Moore has opened up about her time working alongside Tom Cruise in the 1992 courtroom drama A Few Good Men, revealing that her pregnancy during production left her co-star feeling “a bit embarrassed.”

Speaking at the New Yorker Festival on October 25, 2025, with writer Jia Tolentino, Moore recalled that she was nearly eight months pregnant with her daughter Scout Willis when the film entered preproduction. “I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” she admitted. “I was comfortable, but I could sense that he found it awkward.”

Moore explained that Cruise’s reaction reflected the attitudes of that era when it was uncommon for leading Hollywood actresses to work while expecting. “At that time, there weren’t many women visibly pregnant while headlining films,” Moore shared. “It didn’t make sense to me why you couldn’t do both — have a thriving career and embrace motherhood.”

The Substance star revealed she placed intense pressure on herself to demonstrate that women could balance professional success with family life. Looking back, she said, “I was definitely an overachiever. Now, I think — what was I even thinking?”

Moore also discussed the physical demands she faced, recalling that she continued to block scenes, rehearse, and stay active late into her pregnancy. “I did a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke, a 24-mile bike ride, and even danced at a reggae club,” she said. “No wonder she arrived two and a half weeks early.”

After giving birth, Moore balanced new motherhood with work commitments, including breastfeeding between shoots. Reflecting on Hollywood today, she expressed gratitude that the industry now offers more support for working mothers than it did in the early 1990s. “I’m proud that younger actresses no longer have to prove they can do it all. They can pursue motherhood and ambition without guilt,” she said.
