Dinesh Karthik Criticizes Sai Sudharsan’s Lazy Shot as His Prediction of Missed Century Comes True

Date:

In the ongoing India vs West Indies 2nd Test, Sai Sudharsan found himself at the center of criticism from Dinesh Karthik, who expressed frustration over the young batter’s brief lapse in focus. Despite a strong start alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sudharsan’s innings ended in disappointment — falling short of what could have been his maiden Test hundred.

India’s top order looked comfortable as Jaiswal reached another magnificent century while Sudharsan built a solid half-century. However, while batting on 58, the left-hander played a casual flick that nearly cost him his wicket when Jomel Warrican dropped a tough catch. Though Sudharsan survived that scare, his approach didn’t sit well with Karthik, who didn’t hold back his words in commentary.

Karthik stated, “That was a lazy shot from Sai Sudharsan. He should’ve been deep in his crease or gone for a strong pull. Instead, he looked casual. If he misses a century today, it’ll be his own doing. There’s no unplayable bowling right now — all he needs is focus.”

Karthik’s prediction soon proved prophetic. After rebuilding his innings into the 80s, Sudharsan fell LBW to Warrican, just 13 runs short of a century. The left-arm spinner delivered a sharply turning ball that caught Sudharsan on the pads, and although the batter reviewed the decision, the replay confirmed the umpire’s call.

Since his debut in the India vs England Test series, Sudharsan has shown glimpses of talent but has struggled with consistency at No. 3. Despite support from teammate Shubman Gill, questions have lingered over his temperament and shot selection. The latest dismissal adds another layer of frustration for the Indian camp as they continue their battle against the West Indies.
