Drinking Green Tea for 2 Weeks Can Improve Liver Health and Gut Bacteria Says Expert Gastroenterologist

Date:

Dr. Joseph Salhab, a prominent gastroenterologist and specialist in liver health and digestive wellness, has shared insights on how drinking green tea daily for just two weeks can positively impact liver function. In a recent Instagram post dated June 12, he highlighted how green tea consumption influences liver health, gut bacteria, and even cognitive well-being.

Dr. Salhab noted that drinking green tea every day for 10 to 14 days may support liver protection and slow the progression of fatty liver disease. The beverage is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which have been shown to reduce liver inflammation and improve fat metabolism in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

According to the expert, green tea helps beneficial gut bacteria like Bifidobacteria flourish, thereby improving digestive function. This shift in gut microbiota begins in as little as 10 days, enhancing overall digestive and metabolic health.

In addition to its liver-supportive properties, regular green tea intake is associated with improved heart health, reduced blood pressure, better cholesterol profiles, and a reduced risk of memory loss and dementia. Dr. Salhab also noted its role in lowering all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, citing findings from extensive population-based studies.

Dr. Salhab recommends adding mint or jasmine for enhanced flavor and notes that green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, making it a gentler daily alternative.

While green tea offers many health benefits, readers are reminded that the information provided should not replace professional medical consultation. It is always advised to consult a healthcare provider before making changes to one’s diet or treatment plans.
