Driving in Dubai is already demanding, but rainy conditions make the roads significantly more challenging. With authorities warning of unstable weather across the city, motorists are being urged to stay alert and strictly follow traffic regulations to avoid fines and ensure safety.
According to official advisories, drivers must take extra precautions during wet conditions, including maintaining vehicle safety standards, reducing speed, and avoiding risky areas such as flooded roads and valleys. Dubai Police also remind motorists that repeated violations can result in black points, and accumulating 24 points may lead to a six-month license suspension.

Using a mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited. Capturing photos or videos during rainy conditions may seem tempting, but it significantly distracts drivers and increases accident risks. Authorities highlight that texting behind the wheel can raise accident chances by up to 32 percent, while also reducing reaction time. This offence carries a fine of Dhs800 along with four black points.
Improper lane changes are another common violation. Sudden or unsafe lane switching, especially in slippery conditions, can lead to serious accidents. Drivers caught doing this face a Dhs400 fine, while heavy vehicle drivers may receive stricter penalties including Dhs1500 and 12 black points.
Reckless driving is treated as a serious offence in Dubai, particularly during adverse weather. Actions such as swerving dangerously or ignoring traffic signals can put lives at risk. The penalty includes a Dhs2,000 fine, 23 black points, and vehicle confiscation for up to 60 days. Dangerous swerving alone can result in a Dhs1,000 fine and additional black points.
Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles is crucial during rainfall. Wet roads increase stopping distances, making tailgating extremely dangerous. Failing to keep sufficient distance can lead to a Dhs400 fine and four black points.
