Emily Blunt Raises Alarm Over AI Actress Tilly Norwood Says Hollywood Must Protect Human Actors

Date:

Hollywood star Emily Blunt has voiced strong concerns about the rise of AI-generated performers after learning about Tilly Norwood, a virtual actress created by tech studio Xicoia. During her appearance on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Blunt was introduced to Tilly for the first time and admitted she felt “terrified” by how lifelike the AI creation looked.

Blunt reacted with shock upon being shown Tilly’s video clips, exclaiming, “No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really scary. Agencies, please don’t do that. Stop taking away our human connection.” She added that comparing the AI actress to Scarlett Johansson was unnecessary, stating, “We already have Scarlett Johansson.”

Who is Tilly Norwood?

Tilly Norwood is the debut AI talent launched by Eline Van der Velden’s Xicoia studio, an offshoot of her company Particle6. Tilly’s promotional videos quickly spread across social media, sparking debate about the ethical future of AI in film. In one clip, the AI actress declares, “In 20 seconds I fought monsters, fled explosions, sold you a car, and nearly won an Oscar. All in a day’s work.”

However, not all viewers are impressed. Critics have labeled the project soulless and artificial. Comments on social media include: “Not real. Should be reported for being AI,” and “This so-called performer lacks depth and emotion. Show me an actual scene with real acting.”

Hollywood’s AI Dilemma

Blunt is not the only voice in the industry urging caution. Many actors fear that AI creations could replace human talent, removing authenticity and the emotional core that comes from real experiences. While AI technology is gaining popularity, opposition remains strong from performers and audiences who value originality and human expression.

As the debate intensifies, Emily Blunt continues to focus on her own career. She is currently promoting The Smashing Machine, her upcoming movie with Dwayne Johnson, set to release on October 3, 2025.
