French Biochemist Reveals Smart Alcohol Choices for Better Blood Sugar Control

Date:

Alcohol may never make it to the “superfoods” list, but many adults still enjoy a drink in moderation. If you want to avoid unnecessary glucose spikes while sipping your favorite beverage, French biochemist and author Jessie Inchauspe, widely known as the Glucose Goddess, has shared helpful advice on choosing smarter drinks.

In a recent social media post, Jessie explained that the real issue is not just alcohol itself but what it is mixed with. Drinks containing added sugar, such as sweet cocktails, force the liver to process ethanol and sugar at the same time, which can lead to higher glucose spikes and place additional strain on the body.

Jessie recommends opting for wine, beer, or spirits mixed with soda water rather than sugary or creamy cocktails. These choices contain lower sugar content, resulting in a smaller impact on blood sugar levels. She highlights that choosing the right mixer is key, noting that soda water is a much healthier option compared to juices or soft drinks.

“If you want a drink that is less harmful for your body, go for one that isn’t mixed with sugar,” she explained. “Spirit with soda, beer, or wine will allow your liver to handle less at once and reduce the glucose spike.”

While moderate drinking may be fine for many people, experts advise awareness and balance. This information is intended for guidance only and should not replace professional medical advice.
