Hitesh Chauhan Reflects After US Open Juniors 2025 Exit: ‘Some Days Just Don’t Go Your Way’

Date:

Indian junior tennis player Hitesh Chauhan bowed out of the US Open Juniors 2025 in the opening round after losing in straight sets to American player Maximus Dussault. The match lasted one hour and 25 minutes, with Chauhan going down 2-6, 3-6.

The young talent, who trains at Roundglass Sports Academy in Chandigarh and is supported by US-based company Roundglass, admitted nerves and pressure played a part in the defeat but praised his opponent’s strong performance.

“I think it wasn’t my day today. Sometimes that happens in tennis,” Chauhan said after the match. “I was a bit nervous, but full credit to him, he played really well.”

Currently ranked No. 75 on the ITF World Tennis Tour boys’ rankings, Chauhan was making his second Grand Slam main draw appearance following his debut earlier this year at Roland Garros Juniors.

Despite the early exit, Chauhan expressed pride in representing India at the international stage and highlighted the importance of more Indian juniors competing at Grand Slam tournaments.

“I feel proud to represent my country here. It’s a beautiful thing when people see your success and get inspired to take up the sport,” he added. “As more juniors play in Grand Slams, it will motivate others. India has good facilities and talented players—we just need more kids breaking through at this level.”

India’s second representative in the boys’ singles, Krish Tyagi, also faced defeat in his opener, falling 3-6, 1-6 against Sweden’s Ludvig Hede. Both Chauhan and Tyagi, however, will continue their campaigns in the boys’ doubles event.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ singles draw, rising Indian star Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi clinched an impressive first-round victory, beating China’s Zhang-Qian Wei 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to progress to the second round.

Chauhan remains hopeful about his future, aiming to learn from this experience as he prepares for upcoming tournaments on the junior circuit.
