Honor is gearing up to unveil its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V5, in China on July 2. In the run-up to the big reveal, the brand has shared a series of official teasers highlighting key specs and standout features — including its powerful new periscope telephoto camera. According to Honor, the Magic V5 will carry a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor with optical image stabilisation, which they claim is the highest-resolution periscope lens on any foldable device so far.
The new model will build on the camera system seen in the previous Magic V3, which offered a 50-megapixel periscope lens. For the Magic V5, leaks suggest the triple rear camera setup will include a 50-megapixel primary shooter and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor alongside the new telephoto unit, promising versatile photography options for users.
Beyond its upgraded optics, the Honor Magic V5 is confirmed to house a large 6,100mAh battery and feature Honor’s proprietary Luban shock-absorbing hinge, designed to provide improved durability with drop resistance and AI foreign object detection. The foldable will have an ultra-slim profile, measuring just 8.8mm thick when folded, positioning it as the world’s thinnest and lightest foldable phone yet, if the company’s claims hold true.
Other expected highlights include the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset under the hood, an IPX8-rated build for dust and water resistance, and a 6.45-inch LTPO OLED external screen paired with an 8-inch 2K inner display. Storage and memory configurations will reportedly go up to 16GB RAM and a massive 1TB of internal storage.
The Honor Magic V5 will come in four colourways: Dawn Gold Silk Road Dunhuang Velvet Black and Warm White. Buyers can choose from three storage variants — 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 16GB RAM with 512GB storage, or the top-end 16GB RAM with 1TB. The device is expected to support 66W wired fast charging and weigh around 217 grams.
As the countdown to the launch continues, Honor fans are eagerly waiting to see if the Magic V5 will redefine foldable photography and set new benchmarks for thin and light design in the competitive foldable smartphone market.
