A new smartphone from Honor could soon enter the market with an extremely large battery capacity. According to recent leaks the upcoming Honor X80 GT may feature one of the biggest batteries ever included in a mainstream smartphone.
Industry sources suggest that the device could debut in China sometime during the first half of the year. If the reports are accurate the handset could stand out for its exceptional battery endurance compared to most smartphones currently available.
A tipster on the Chinese social media platform Weibo recently claimed that the Honor X80 GT will include a massive 13,080mAh battery. Such a battery size would be significantly larger than the typical capacities seen in modern smartphones and could even compete with small portable power banks.
At the moment other hardware details about the smartphone remain unknown and the company has not officially confirmed the device or its launch schedule. However if the leak proves accurate the battery would surpass the capacity of several existing devices from the brand.
Honor has already been experimenting with high capacity batteries in its recent smartphones. For example the Honor Power 2 currently features a 10,080mAh battery which is among the largest offered by the company. Other models in the Honor Win series also come equipped with batteries around the 10,000mAh range.
The rumoured X80 GT would push this trend even further by introducing an even larger battery that could significantly improve battery life for users who prioritise long usage times.
The move also reflects a wider shift among Chinese smartphone manufacturers that are increasingly focusing on larger battery capacities. New battery technologies such as silicon carbon cells are allowing companies to develop bigger power units while maintaining relatively slim phone designs.
In comparison many flagship devices from global technology companies such as Samsung still feature batteries around 5,000mAh although reports suggest the company is testing new battery technologies that could reach capacities between 12,000mAh and 18,000mAh in future devices.
If the leaked details are confirmed the Honor X80 GT could become one of the most powerful battery focused smartphones on the market when it officially launches.
