Avocado oil is becoming a popular addition to everyday cooking, and health experts say its benefits extend far beyond flavour. Extracted from the same creamy fruit many people enjoy on toast salads and smoothies, avocado oil is packed with monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that may help improve cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation. Its high smoke point also makes it ideal for high-heat cooking such as sautéing roasting and stir-frying.
Around 70 percent of the fat in avocado oil comes from monounsaturated fatty acids which are widely considered heart-friendly fats. According to cardiology and nutrition specialists these fats can support lower LDL cholesterol while keeping saturated fat intake low. Registered dietitian Benjamin Sizemore explains that monounsaturated fats can help maintain healthier blood lipids and support cardiovascular wellness.
Cardiologist Keith Ellis also notes that avocado oil provides a mix of healthy fats including a moderate amount of polyunsaturated fats which may help reduce the buildup of plaque and calcium in arteries. This supports long-term heart protection.

Compounds such as oleic acid phytosterols chlorophylls xanthones xanthines and carotenoids help combat oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. Since inflammation and high cholesterol often overlap as contributors to heart disease choosing antioxidant-rich foods may offer added support.
A 2025 scientific review highlighted how these plant-based compounds in avocado oil assist the body in naturally managing inflammation. While avocado oil is not a cure for heart conditions incorporating it into daily meals may offer small but meaningful benefits to overall cardiovascular health.
