How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Film Gets Peacock Release Date and Streaming Details

Date:

Universal Pictures’ highly anticipated live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is officially heading to streaming. After a successful theatrical run that began on June 13, 2025, the movie will make its digital debut on Peacock in October, giving fans a chance to revisit the magical story of Hiccup and Toothless at home.

When is How to Train Your Dragon releasing on Peacock?

The live-action adaptation of the beloved 2010 animated film will arrive on Peacock on October 10, 2025. Fans won’t have to wait long for even more content, as the original animated trilogy will also be available on the platform starting October 1, 2025.

In addition to the full-length feature, Peacock subscribers will gain access to 90 minutes of bonus material, including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes features, and exclusive clips such as Hiccup’s test ride with Toothless.

What is the story of the new adaptation?

Based on Cressida Cowell’s bestselling children’s book series, the live-action version follows the journey of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a young Viking from the Isle of Berk. Unlike the rest of his tribe, who see dragons only as enemies, Hiccup invents a device that changes his fate when he encounters the feared Night Fury. This meeting leads him to form a deep bond with a dragon named Toothless, challenging the age-old rivalry between humans and dragons and proving that coexistence is possible.

Box office success and global reception

Since its theatrical release, How to Train Your Dragon has been a massive success, earning $632.1 million worldwide. This achievement pushes the overall franchise earnings to $2.2 billion globally, which includes the $1.6 billion generated by the original animated trilogy. The new film’s success further solidifies the franchise’s position as one of the most beloved stories in modern cinema.

Cast and crew details

The live-action film features an ensemble cast including Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Bronwyn James, Nick Frost, Harry Trevaldwyn, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Ruth Codd, and Andrea Ware. Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind the original animated trilogy, returned to write and direct this adaptation, ensuring it remains faithful to the spirit of the original story while introducing a fresh cinematic experience.

With its October release, both long-time fans and new audiences will soon get to enjoy this epic Viking tale of friendship, courage, and discovery from the comfort of their homes.
