Iga Swiatek Secures Historic Wimbledon Final Spot After Dominant Win Over Belinda Bencic

Date:

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has made history by booking her place in her first-ever Wimbledon final after an emphatic straight-sets triumph over Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. Swiatek, seeded eighth, breezed past Bencic with a commanding 6-2 6-0 victory on Centre Court, wrapping up the semifinal in just over an hour and setting up a title showdown against American Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova earlier stunned world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-set battle to reach her maiden Grand Slam final.

The 24-year-old Swiatek showed her class and composure throughout the clash, racing to an early 3-0 lead in the first set. Bencic, who returned to the tour last year after giving birth, managed to hold serve twice but had no answers to Swiatek’s relentless game as she broke to love to seal the first set. The second set proved to be even more ruthless as Swiatek didn’t drop a single game, powering through to her first Wimbledon final appearance.

This marks Swiatek’s return to a Grand Slam final since she lifted her fifth major trophy at Roland Garros in 2024. Wimbledon has long been her most elusive Slam, with her previous best being a quarter-final run in 2023. But the Pole has found her rhythm on grass this season, even reaching her first grass-court final at Bad Homburg just two weeks ago.

Heading into Sunday’s final, Swiatek holds an impressive unbeaten 5-0 record in major finals, including four French Open crowns (2020 2022 2023 2024) and a US Open title in 2022. She will look to complete her Slam collection by adding the coveted Wimbledon title to her resume.

Speaking after her win, an emotional Swiatek said, “Honestly I never dreamed it would be possible for me to play in a Wimbledon final so I’m super proud and excited. Tennis keeps surprising me in the best ways. I thought I’d experienced it all but playing great on grass is something new for me and I’m really enjoying it.”

Fans around the world will be eager to see if Swiatek can extend her perfect finals streak and lift her first Wimbledon trophy this weekend.
