YouTuber and filmmaker Mark Fischbach, widely known as Markiplier, has officially revealed the final trailer and theatrical release date for his upcoming horror film Iron Lung. Serving as his directorial debut, the project is an adaptation of David Szymanski’s cult-favorite indie game and showcases Markiplier as director writer producer and lead actor. The film is being independently distributed by the creator himself and is set to arrive in theatres in January 2026.
The highly anticipated movie will make its debut on January 30 2026 with screenings planned across select independent theatres in the United States. Inspired by the atmospheric horror game of the same name the story follows a convict trapped inside a small submarine navigating a mysterious blood ocean discovered on a barren moon designated AT-5. The original game was widely praised for its gripping tension visual style and isolated setting which the film aims to recreate on a larger cinematic scale.
According to the official synopsis the universe has entered a catastrophic phenomenon known as The Quiet Rapture which has caused stars and planets to vanish leaving only scattered survivors on starships and space stations. As resources dwindle the Consolidation of Iron launches a desperate expedition to investigate a newly found ocean of blood. A convict is sealed inside a custom-built submarine with no functional forward viewport due to the immense pressure of the ocean. If the mission succeeds the pilot earns freedom—if it fails another prisoner will take their place marking this journey as the thirteenth attempt.
The final trailer highlights the suffocating environment that made the game a fan favorite. Distorted readings flickering lights crew tensions and rising panic set the tone as the submarine plunges deeper into the unknown. With unsettling anomalies appearing inside and outside the vessel the protagonist’s mission quickly spirals into chaos.
While theatrical listings are expected to include between 50 to 100 independent venues there is currently no confirmation regarding a streaming release. Alongside Markiplier the film features performances from Seán McLoughlin Caroline Rose Kaplan and the game’s creator David Szymanski adding further excitement for fans of the original title.
