Jennifer Garner has shared a startling behind-the-scenes story from an earlier action film revealing just how real one fight scene became. While speaking at a panel for her Apple TV series The Last Thing He Told Me the actor looked back on filming the 2007 thriller The Kingdom where realism on set went far beyond expectations.
Garner explained that director Peter Berg encouraged an authentic approach to the fight choreography giving the actors minimal direction and asking them to react naturally in the moment. During an intense confrontation with actor and stunt performer Sala Baker the scene escalated unexpectedly. Garner recalled climbing onto his back during the struggle and biting his ear resulting in an actual injury. She noted that the moment was captured in a photo showing Baker missing a small piece of his ear emphasizing that neither of them was holding back.
Nearly two decades later the two reunited on set while filming season two of The Last Thing He Told Me. This time the pair were involved in a kidnapping sequence and once again committed fully to the physical demands of the scene. Garner joked that the crew appeared concerned by how intense the performance became early in the shoot but she insisted there would be no restraint.
Her co-star Nicolaj Coster-Waldau reacted with visible shock when she retold the story during the panel. Garner later humorously compared the incident to Mike Tyson’s infamous boxing moment underscoring just how extreme the situation had been. Despite the seriousness of the incident she spoke about it with levity and warned that she should never be underestimated in physically demanding roles.
Garner also discussed her connection to the character Hannah Hall describing the role as deeply fulfilling. She said the character’s fierce determination to protect her stepdaughter forms the emotional backbone of the series. Season two of The Last Thing He Told Me is scheduled to premiere on February 20 bringing Garner back to the screen in a role that highlights both strength and emotional depth.
