Jennifer Garner recently disclosed the intense workout regimen she adopted to achieve the “Marvel fit” physique required for her cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ At 52, Garner posted a video compilation of her months-long training journey on Instagram, titled “Becoming Elektra.” The video showcases her engaging in a variety of challenging exercises, including high-intensity interval training (HIIT), boxing, weight training, and water aerobics.
Reflecting on her fitness journey, the ‘Daredevil’ actress mentioned that while she was in good shape back in 2005 during the filming of ‘Elektra,’ maintaining that level of fitness wouldn’t suffice for a Marvel film. Garner recounted how Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy approached her with the idea of reviving her character, Elektra, while they were on the set of ‘The Adam Project.’
“We were on set, and I noticed the way Ryan and Shawn communicated with just a look—it was like they could share an idea, a script, or even nuclear codes with just a glance,” Garner shared. “I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not Marvel fit.”
The ‘Family Switch’ star detailed her diverse workout routine, which included various sports and exercises, to prepare for the superhero role. “I didn’t realize Elektra and I needed closure, but Shawn and Ryan did. They have a unique talent for recognizing and enhancing the potential in those around them,” she continued.
Garner expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her co-stars Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes. “Filming the fight scenes was incredibly fun, and being there with everyone felt like a dream. I’m immensely proud of my friends and thankful to be part of this project. A simple thank you isn’t enough, but it’s a start until I find a better way to express my gratitude,” she added.
