Jennifer Lopez Gets Emotional Remembering Super Bowl Halftime Show with Daughter Emme

Date:

Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about her unforgettable 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance, describing the moment she shared the stage with her daughter Emme as one of the most meaningful experiences of her career. Speaking in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning on September 28, the singer and actress reflected on the night that left her in tears.

The 56-year-old star was discussing her upcoming film The Kiss of the Spider-Woman when the conversation shifted toward her music and activism. Lopez explained that her art has always been about creating connections, especially with communities close to her heart. “It’s very personal, very close to my heart,” she said about her bond with the LGBTQ+ community.

A powerful Super Bowl moment

Lopez recalled how she incorporated powerful political and cultural messages into the halftime show. She spoke about the decision to feature cages on stage with young Latin girls inside, a symbolic statement on the political climate at the time. “I didn’t know if they were going to let that fly. And they almost didn’t. But we snuck it in,” she revealed.

She also reflected on her hit song Let’s Get Loud becoming a rallying cry, admitting she never anticipated its cultural impact. For Lopez, however, the highlight was performing alongside her then-11-year-old daughter Emme. “Singing that with my child there, and them screaming the lyrics back to me—‘I’m going to live my life!’—that was one of the best moments of my life,” Lopez said as she held back tears.

A mother’s pride

The memory of that night still resonates deeply with the global superstar. She described watching her daughter on stage as a source of pure joy and pride: “Just to see them there, being so happy and exactly who they are—it was beautiful.”

Lopez shares 17-year-old twins Emme and Max with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. Earlier this year, she also became emotional when dropping Emme off for their first day of senior year. On Instagram Stories, she posted: “I just dropped off this little coconut to their first day of senior year. Looking back at this photo reminds me that they’ll always be my baby.”

Aside from family moments, Lopez has kept fans updated with snapshots from her summer in the Hamptons, where she posed with Emme and vocal coach Stevie Mackey. The singer’s heartfelt posts show how she continues to balance her career, activism, and motherhood while staying deeply connected to her children.
