Kim Novak Questions Sydney Sweeney Casting in ‘Scandalous!’ Calls Choice Inaccurate

Date:

Hollywood legend Kim Novak has publicly expressed her dissatisfaction with the casting of Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming film Scandalous!, stating that the actress is not the right fit to portray her on screen.

In a recent interview, Novak shared strong reservations about the project, which explores her past relationship with iconic entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. during the 1950s. The film is being directed by Colman Domingo in his first outing as a director, while actor David Jonsson is set to play Davis.

Novak made it clear that she would not have supported Sweeney taking on the role, suggesting that the portrayal does not align with her own image and personality. She also expressed concern that the film may emphasize the romantic and physical aspects of her relationship with Davis rather than focusing on their deeper personal connection and shared values.

The veteran actress indicated that the tone of the film could lean too heavily into glamour and sensuality, which she believes misrepresents the nature of her real-life story. Her comments have sparked discussion about casting accuracy and creative interpretation in biographical films.

Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney, who is also attached to the project as a producer, had previously spoken about her enthusiasm for bringing the story to life. She played a key role in selecting Colman Domingo as director, praising his vision and storytelling ability. The two had earlier worked together on the series Euphoria, which helped build their professional connection.

Sweeney revealed that she personally reached out to Domingo with the script, encouraging him to take on the project. According to her, the film has been a passion-driven effort, with the team investing significant time in development and financing.

Although Sweeney did not directly confirm whether she has met Novak, she mentioned that Domingo and Novak have been in communication, describing their interaction as positive and meaningful.

As anticipation builds around Scandalous!, Novak’s remarks have added a new layer of conversation around the film’s direction, casting choices, and how real-life figures are represented in modern cinema.
