The animated hit KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s most-watched English-language movie ever, clocking an astonishing 236 million views since its release. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film not only overtook Red Notice (starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot) but also sparked massive fan demand for a sequel. Now, reports suggest that Netflix and Sony are already in early talks to continue the adventure.
Sequel Talks Already Underway
In an interview, co-director Maggie Kang revealed that the story has much more to explore. “We’ve set up so much potential backstory. There are still many unanswered questions and unexplored areas. We had to hold back because you can only fit so much into an 85-minute film,” Kang explained.
Plot and Characters
The first film followed Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), members of the K-pop group Huntr/x, who secretly double as demon hunters. Their biggest challenge comes when their supernatural rival, played by Lee Byung-hun, forms a rival boy band to steal fans’ souls. With their friendship and fandom at stake, the trio must fight back to save their world.
The sequel is expected to further expand on the lore of demon hunting, rival bands, and K-pop culture’s crossover with fantasy.
Star-Studded Voice Cast
The voice cast of the original film includes Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. A sing-along version also hit U.S. theatres on August 23 and 24, debuting at No. 1 at the box office.
With a massive global following, it seems only a matter of time before Netflix confirms the much-anticipated sequel to KPop Demon Hunters.
