Kyle Walker Joins Burnley for Fresh Start After Man City Success Says He Was Seeking a Family-Oriented Club Atmosphere

Date:

After a successful eight-year spell at Manchester City, which included six Premier League trophies and a Champions League title, seasoned right-back Kyle Walker has completed a summer move to Burnley in a transfer estimated at £5 million. The veteran defender, now 35, has opted to join newly promoted Burnley, managed by former England and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker—Walker’s former teammate at both club and international level.

This strategic career move marks a new chapter for Walker, who had spent the previous season on loan at AC Milan after gradually losing his starting place at City. During an exclusive interview with JioHotstar, Walker revealed the motivation behind his decision to sign with Burnley. “I felt I needed a shift—a genuine family-style club. Burnley’s journey over the past couple of seasons has been inspiring. Watching their progress from afar, I could sense something special was happening. I’ve got familiar faces here and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

Speaking further about his new club, Walker highlighted the community environment that attracted him. “I’ve been part of top-tier football for many years, including my time overseas, but this time, I wanted a place with heart. My son now trains at the Burnley facility and being around the club, you can sense a real vision and passion from the owners. That’s the kind of project I want to be part of—something meaningful where I can contribute both on and off the pitch.”

He also had a heartfelt message for Burnley fans. “I hope supporters know the kind of player I am from watching me over the years. I’ve played at Turf Moor before and I know how loud and passionate the home support is. It can become one of the toughest places to play when the fans are behind you. That’s what we need—to turn it into a fortress. Winning at home is everything. The club has fought hard to be here and the supporters’ energy can help us stay in the Premier League. This club deserves stability and success.”
