A surprising revelation has emerged regarding Kylian Mbappé, who reportedly continued playing despite a serious knee issue after an initial medical error at Real Madrid delayed the correct diagnosis.
Reports indicate that following a knock during a La Liga clash against Celta Vigo in early December, Mbappe underwent an MRI scan. However, the scan was mistakenly conducted on his right knee instead of the injured left one. As a result, no problem was detected initially, allowing the forward to continue playing matches despite ongoing discomfort.
It was only after further evaluation that the real issue was identified — a partial tear in the posterior ligament of his left knee. Despite this, the club’s official communication at the time described the injury more generally as a knee sprain.
Even with the undiagnosed injury, Mbappe featured in several matches toward the end of the year and delivered remarkable performances. During this period, he matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in a calendar year for the club, highlighting his resilience and determination.
His recovery journey has been carefully managed since then. After returning to training post Christmas, medical staff monitored his condition closely, adopting a gradual and controlled rehabilitation approach. He missed key fixtures including the Spanish Super Cup semi final but later made appearances from the bench.
Throughout the following weeks, Mbappe remained an important part of the squad, playing in most matches while his minutes were managed. He continued to contribute significantly, scoring multiple goals despite not being fully fit.
As discomfort persisted, the French star travelled to Paris for additional medical assessments, accompanied by club staff. Since then, he has gradually returned to action, including appearances in major matches against Manchester City and Atlético Madrid.
Mbappe has also rejoined the national team setup, linking up with France national football team for international fixtures. His situation has raised questions about medical procedures and player welfare, while also showcasing his commitment to performing at the highest level despite challenges.
