Lionel Messi Set for Historic Multi-City India Tour Featuring Virtual Statue Reveal Suárez Reunion and Meeting with PM Modi

Date:

Legendary football icon Lionel Messi is gearing up for a landmark four-city tour across India, marking his grand return more than a decade after his last visit in 2011. Scheduled to arrive on December 12, the World Cup-winning Argentine superstar will headline the official G.O.A.T. India Tour 2025, travelling to Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi for a series of cultural events, fan interactions, charity initiatives and high-profile appearances. This nationwide tour highlights Messi’s growing connection with Indian supporters and showcases a fully curated celebration of football, fashion, philanthropy and fan culture.

The tour begins in Kolkata on December 13, where Messi will check into a luxury hotel on EM Bypass before attending an exclusive sponsor meet-and-greet between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Guests will experience an Argentine-Indian fusion menu featuring mate infused with Assamese flavours along with iconic Bengali dishes such as hilsa and traditional sweets. For security reasons, Messi will virtually unveil a massive 70-foot statue dedicated to him, along with a 25 ft x 20 ft mural designed especially for the Durga Puja season. Fans will also enjoy the opportunity to contribute to a message board created for him. Over 70,000 supporters are expected at the stadium celebration before Messi departs for Hyderabad at 2 PM.

The Hyderabad leg replaces an earlier cancelled Kochi event, ensuring the tour remains a truly pan-India celebration. Messi will attend the Hyderabad GOAT Cup at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal from 7 PM, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is slated to attend. The evening will showcase a celebrity 7v7 football match, youth masterclass sessions, penalty shootouts, and a musical tribute honouring Messi’s global legacy.

In Mumbai, organisers have invited Messi to bring memorabilia from Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph for a charity auction. Messi will also appear in a 45-minute philanthropic fashion segment on December 14 at Wankhede Stadium, where he will reunite with Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul. Bollywood personalities, cricket stars and celebrities including Tiger Shroff, Jackie Shroff and John Abraham are expected to attend. The day begins with a Padel Cup at the Cricket Club of India at 3:30 PM before the main event starts at 5 PM.

The final stop of the tour is New Delhi on Monday, where Messi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. Messi will also honour Minerva Academy’s youth football squad, who secured major European titles including the Gothia Cup, Dana Cup and Norway Cup, and reached the Helsinki Cup final earlier this year. His Delhi engagements will conclude with a celebrity nine-member exhibition match, rounding off a milestone moment for Indian football and global fan culture.
