Matcha Emerges as the Latest Skincare Powerhouse Driving a New Beauty Movement

Date:

Matcha has officially moved beyond the teacup and into the heart of modern skincare with a momentum that shows no signs of slowing down. As the global matcha industry climbs from a valuation of 4.69 billion dollars in 2024 toward an estimated 7.43 billion dollars by 2030 its influence on beauty is becoming increasingly visible. The booming demand for wellness-centered ingredients has turned this vibrant green powder into one of the most sought-after additions to skincare and cosmetic formulations.

Beauty aisles today resemble matcha-inspired displays with global and Indian brands embracing the trend. Laneige is capturing attention with its Matcha Latte lip mask while Huda Beauty is offering a matcha infused lip tint. Indian labels such as ClayCo have introduced a Matcha Enzyme Scrub and Renne has developed a full collection including toner mask and lip balm. According to ClayCo founder Niharika Jhunjhunwala matcha’s rise reflects a growing preference for ingredient-focused beauty that blends efficacy with a sense of mindful self care.

Dermatologists note that the excitement comes from the ingredient’s familiarity and its association with wellness. Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta explains that people gravitate toward skincare that feels natural wholesome and rooted in daily rituals. To understand whether matcha truly delivers results experts highlight its botanical origin from Camellia sinensis and its concentration of skin supporting compounds.

Dermatologist Dr Kiran Lohia points out that matcha offers almost three times the EGCG found in regular green tea making it a powerful antioxidant source. This high concentration helps counter free radical damage reduces redness manages excess oil and strengthens the skin barrier which is especially beneficial for sensitive and acne prone skin. Its rich chlorophyll content also acts as a protective shield against pollution helping detoxify and brighten dull complexions. With its ability to aid skin recovery after procedures improve texture slow early signs of ageing and support balanced oil production matcha has become a versatile skincare ingredient.

Influencers and founders share that the trend resonates because matcha feels familiar comforting and effective. Many compare it to other beverage-based skincare trends such as coffee infused formulas that help reduce puffiness by constricting blood vessels or green tea serums that soothe redness and reinforce the skin barrier. As beauty continues to borrow from daily drink rituals matcha’s moment in the spotlight appears well deserved.
