Matt Reeves Confirms The Batman Part II Release Date With Finished Script Tease

Date:

Director Matt Reeves has finally given fans something solid to hold onto about The Batman Part II. After a stretch of uncertainty and long delays since its initial announcement back in April 2022, Reeves took to Instagram to share an encouraging update — a photo showing off the completed script for the highly anticipated sequel, now officially set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.

The blurry snapshot of the script featured a clear Batman logo and a simple caption: “Partners in Crime (Fighters),” tagging co-writer Mattson Tomlin, who returns after contributing to the original film’s gritty narrative. Although Reeves didn’t reveal any plot specifics in his post, the confirmation of a finished screenplay reassures fans that Gotham’s darkest hero will indeed return to the big screen, even if the wait stretches over five years.

Since its release in March 2022, The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne earned praise for its noir style and grounded storytelling. While there’s no official word yet, it’s widely expected that Pattinson will don the cape once more for the sequel, staying true to Reeves’ vision for the standalone Elseworlds version of Gotham, which remains separate from James Gunn’s newly forming DC Universe.

James Gunn, who now oversees DC Studios, recently addressed fans’ frustrations over the prolonged timeline in an interview. Gunn urged patience, reminding fans that Reeves should have the creative space he needs to craft another compelling chapter. “You like his movie because of Matt,” Gunn emphasized. “So let Matt do things the way he does. Creativity takes time.”

The Batman Part II will be adapted from a fresh narrative but retains the same moody atmosphere that defined the first film. With the script in hand and the release date locked, Reeves and his team can finally get the wheels rolling on production. For Gotham fans, the promise of another dark and thrilling story is officially back on track — even if the road to October 2027 is still a long one.
