Kylian Mbappe’s frustration was evident following Real Madrid’s narrow defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. As Barcelona prepared to collect the trophy after a dramatic 3-2 win, multiple videos showed Mbappe urging his teammates to skip the traditional guard of honour, reflecting the disappointment inside the Madrid camp after losing to their fiercest rivals.
The French forward began the final on the bench after arriving late in Saudi Arabia and was introduced in the second half. Returning from a knee injury, Mbappe entered the match in the 76th minute but found it difficult to change the flow of the game. Real Madrid struggled to regain control in midfield, where Barcelona’s Pedri and Frenkie de Jong dominated the closing stages with composure and energy.
Despite pushing hard for an equaliser, Madrid were unable to overturn the deficit, bringing an end to their five-match winning run across all competitions. Head coach Xabi Alonso is still searching for his first trophy since taking charge in June and admitted the loss was painful, though he acknowledged how evenly matched the contest was.
Barcelona, meanwhile, continue their impressive momentum. The Super Cup victory extended their winning streak to ten matches in all competitions and strengthened belief that this triumph could be a springboard for further success, with the Catalan side currently leading La Liga after an inconsistent early season.
