MediaTek Confirms Dimensity 8500 Launch with Possible Mali-G720 GPU

Date:

MediaTek has officially announced the launch date for its Dimensity 8500 chipset, set to debut on January 15, 2026, at 3pm local time in China (12:30pm IST). The Dimensity 8500 is expected to succeed the Dimensity 8400 and bring significant improvements in performance and efficiency for upcoming smartphones. Reports suggest the chipset could feature an octa-core setup with one high-performance core clocked at 3.40GHz, three mid-performance cores at 3.20GHz, and four efficiency cores running at 2.20GHz.

Manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 4nm process, the Dimensity 8500 is rumored to be paired with a Mali-G720 MC8 GPU, promising enhanced graphics performance. Leaks indicate the SoC has achieved over 2.2 million points on the AnTuTu benchmark, potentially outperforming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in GPU tasks. The chipset is likely to power upcoming devices, including the Honor Power 2 with a 10,000mAh battery and the Xiaomi 17T, delivering a balance of high efficiency, powerful AI capabilities, and top-tier gaming performance.

The Dimensity 8500 continues MediaTek’s innovation in mobile processing, incorporating agentic AI features introduced with the Dimensity 9400. Compared to the Dimensity 8400, the new chipset promises upgraded AI processing, better power efficiency, and stronger graphics performance, making it a competitive option for flagship and high-performance mid-range smartphones in 2026.
