Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta is now available for global users, offering a sneak peek at the company’s latest Android 16-based software. The update brings innovative features including an AI usage dashboard, Essential Apps, and the Playground feature, allowing users to create and share apps. This beta version is accessible for Nothing Phone 3, Phone 2, and Phone 2a series, with plans to extend to the Phone 3a series later in October.
To join the Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta, users must first update to Nothing OS 3.5 stable build. Registration involves downloading the Nothing Beta Hub APK, installing it, and joining the beta via Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub. Once registered, users can install the update directly or manually check via system updates. Backing up device data is recommended as beta installations may require a factory reset. The beta program will close on October 14, 2025, after which new users cannot join.
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces several new improvements. Nothing Phone 3 users will enjoy the AI Usage Dashboard in Essential Space, providing insights into LLM activity, enhanced lock screen and always-on display performance, improved camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and network connectivity. Nothing Phone 2 and Phone 2a series benefit from the Stretch camera preset co-developed with photographer Jordan Hemingway, producing richer shadows and extended highlights in photos.
The update also enhances system-level performance, including faster startup speeds and Essential Apps, which allow users to generate apps via natural language commands. The Playground feature enables community sharing of personalized apps. Additional features include pop-up view with floating icons, new lock screen clock faces, 2 x 2 Quick Settings tiles, and extra dark mode, all designed to optimize user experience across devices.
Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta represents a significant step in making Nothing smartphones smarter, faster, and more customizable, giving users early access to AI tools, camera enhancements, and personal app creation before the official release.
