Novak Djokovic Reaches Historic 100 Wins at Wimbledon as Barbora Krejcikova’s Title Defence Ends in Tears

Date:

Novak Djokovic once again proved why he remains one of the greatest ever to grace Centre Court as he notched up his 100th Wimbledon match victory while defending women’s champion Barbora Krejcikova made a heartbreaking early exit from this year’s tournament.

On Saturday, Djokovic delivered a commanding performance against his Davis Cup teammate Miomir Kecmanovic, sweeping through 6-3 6-0 6-4 in under two hours. With this milestone, the seven-time Wimbledon champion joins Martina Navratilova and Roger Federer as the only players to achieve 100 match wins at the All England Club. Djokovic, now 38, is seeking his eighth Wimbledon crown to equal Federer’s record and chasing his 25th Grand Slam title overall — a feat that would set him apart at the top of tennis history.

Reflecting on his success, Djokovic described Wimbledon as the tournament every young tennis player dreams about, saying he feels blessed to continue making history where he feels most at home.

Meanwhile, Grigor Dimitrov celebrated his own milestone by earning his 100th win across the four Grand Slams, defeating Austria’s Sebastian Ofner in straight sets. Croatian veteran Marin Cilic also rolled back the years, overcoming Jaume Munar in four sets to reach the fourth round, setting up a clash with rising Italian Flavio Cobolli.

World number one Jannik Sinner continued to dismantle opponents with ruthless efficiency, dropping only 17 games in three matches so far. Sinner brushed aside Pedro Martinez 6-1 6-3 6-1 and now faces Dimitrov in what could be a fascinating clash of styles. The Italian remains unfazed by records, emphasizing his focus on staying grounded as the rounds progress.

In the women’s draw, heartbreak struck Barbora Krejcikova when the Czech player’s injury struggles caught up with her in a tough match against American Emma Navarro. Krejcikova, last year’s champion, fell 2-6 6-3 6-4 on Court One. Overcome with emotion, she was in tears while trying to stay alive in the final set but ultimately bowed out. Navarro acknowledged the challenge of staying focused when her opponent was clearly in distress.

Krejcikova’s defeat alongside 2022 champion Elena Rybakina’s loss to Denmark’s Clara Tauson ensures the Wimbledon women’s singles will produce a new champion for the eighth straight year. World number one Iga Swiatek remains a strong contender after a confident 6-2 6-3 win over Danielle Collins. Mirra Andreeva, the 18-year-old Russian prodigy, also made waves by dismantling Hailey Baptiste 6-1 6-3.

For American fans, Ben Shelton delivered plenty to cheer about by dispatching Marton Fucsovics 6-3 7-6(4) 6-2, while Australia’s Alex de Minaur looked sharp in his straight-sets victory over Dane August Holmgren. With seasoned veterans like Djokovic and Cilic pushing deep alongside the fearless young stars like Sinner and Shelton, this year’s Wimbledon is shaping up to deliver thrilling tennis all the way to the finals.
