As women enter their 40s nutrition becomes increasingly important in managing hormonal changes maintaining bone density and preventing common deficiencies linked to perimenopause and menopause. While there is no single food that can solve every health concern adding the right nutrient-rich foods can significantly support overall wellbeing during this transition phase.
Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain who holds a Master’s degree in Global Public Health Nutrition and is a certified diabetes educator has highlighted edamame as one essential superfood women over 40 should regularly include in their diet. In a recent social media post she explained that consuming one cup of edamame two to three times a week can help support hormone balance bone health and iron levels.
According to Deepsikha edamame is naturally rich in phytoestrogens which are plant-based compounds that can help support declining estrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause. These compounds may assist in easing symptoms such as hot flashes mood swings and hormonal fluctuations commonly experienced during this stage of life.
Edamame also plays a vital role in supporting bone health. It contains calcium magnesium and vitamin K which are key nutrients for maintaining bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis. As bone loss accelerates after menopause these nutrients become especially important for long-term skeletal strength.
In addition to hormonal and bone benefits edamame provides folate which supports red blood cell production and can be helpful for women dealing with anemia or low iron intake. Including edamame as part of a balanced diet may help women meet their daily nutrient requirements more effectively while supporting overall health through midlife and beyond.
