Patrick Dorgu Strikes Late as Injury-Hit Manchester United Edge Past Newcastle

Date:

Manchester United secured a vital Premier League victory as Patrick Dorgu scored the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford. With several key players unavailable, including captain Bruno Fernandes through injury and Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away on international duty, Ruben Amorim’s tactical adjustments proved decisive.

The Danish youngster was given a more advanced role, and he made it count midway through the first half. Dorgu latched onto a looping clearance and fired a controlled left-footed volley beyond Aaron Ramsdale to net his first goal for the club since arriving from Lecce. The strike proved enough to separate the sides despite Newcastle dominating large spells after the break.

United defended resolutely to claim only their second clean sheet of the campaign, ending a run of home frustration and lifting them up to fifth in the table, level on points with Chelsea. Newcastle, meanwhile, continued their struggles away from home and remain in the bottom half after another disappointing road performance.

Amorim was forced into further changes as the match wore on, including the withdrawal of Mason Mount at half-time, but his side showed resilience. United also came close to extending their lead, with Benjamin Sesko hitting the crossbar and Diogo Dalot missing a clear chance late on.

Newcastle created pressure but failed to convert, with Lewis Hall striking the woodwork and several late efforts sailing over the bar. The defeat leaves Eddie Howe’s side still searching for consistency away from Tyneside and dents their hopes of a Champions League return.
