Priyanka Chopra has shared a deeply personal tribute following the death of veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa who passed away on February 7 at the age of 68. Sunil Thapa played the role of her coach in the 2014 biographical film Mary Kom a project that holds strong emotional significance for the actor. Remembering him with gratitude and affection Priyanka described him as a guiding force during one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
Taking to social media Priyanka posted scenes from Mary Kom highlighting the bond between her character and Thapa’s on screen mentor. She reflected on how Sunil Thapa supported her during the filming of the movie when she was grieving the loss of her father Ashok Chopra who died in 2013 after battling cancer. She shared that his kindness warmth and encouragement helped her remain strong during a time of personal heartbreak.
In her message Priyanka wrote that he would always be her coach thanking him for standing by her without expectation and offering comfort through simple gestures and compassion. She expressed sorrow over his untimely passing and extended her prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones noting that his presence would always live on in her memories.
Sunil Thapa was a celebrated figure in Nepali cinema with a career spanning more than three decades and over 300 films. He gained iconic status for his role as Rate Kaila in Chino and was admired for his powerful performances. In recent years he also appeared in Indian projects including The Family Man Season 3 and the fantasy action film Mirai. His death has prompted tributes from fans public figures and political leaders across the region who praised his lasting contribution to cinema and storytelling.
