The game began with a balanced first half as both sides tested each other’s pressing systems. However, PSG responded quickly, with Senny Mayulu equalising in the 38th minute after an incisive move involving full-back Nuno Mendes.
The turning point came in the second half when PSG’s wing-backs—Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes—continuously exploited Barcelona’s ultra-high defensive line. Hakimi was particularly dangerous, delivering a last-minute assist to Goncalo Ramos, who calmly slotted home in the 90th minute to seal the win.
Barcelona dominated possession with 53 percent, created more chances, and registered more shots on target, yet their defensive structure faltered against PSG’s pace and tactical discipline. Young talents like Lamine Yamal dazzled in flashes but were effectively neutralised after halftime, with Mendes and Hakimi keeping the teenager under control.
Luis Enrique’s side showcased depth and resilience, fielding multiple academy graduates while still managing to overpower the reigning European champions. “We played with many young players, but they showed great maturity,” Enrique said post-match.
The defeat leaves Barcelona questioning their high-line strategy under coach Hansi Flick, who has pushed the defensive line further up the pitch than in previous seasons. While the system helps compress play and intensify counter-pressing, PSG’s dynamic full-backs and clinical finishing exposed its flaws. Flick admitted, “At 1-1, we had to defend better and stay structured. We will learn and improve for the next big challenge.”
