Qualcomm has officially confirmed the launch of its most powerful mobile chipset yet — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The flagship processor will be introduced at the highly anticipated Snapdragon Summit 2025, which takes place from September 23 to September 25.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the direct successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and will once again carry the “Elite” branding reserved exclusively for Qualcomm’s highest-performance platforms. Don McGuire, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, revealed the new name in a blog post, confirming the company’s decision to continue with the Elite series after experimenting with naming conventions in previous years.
Unlike its predecessor launched in October 2024, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will return to a consistent naming format that emphasizes both performance and generational timing. The chip is expected to power flagship Android smartphones launching later this year and into 2026, promising cutting-edge performance for premium devices.
According to industry leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could be built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm N3P process and incorporate Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores. It is also tipped to support ARM’s Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME), enabling significant improvements in AI and machine learning efficiency. Performance upgrades are expected to deliver up to 20 percent boosts in both single-core and multi-core benchmarks compared to the previous generation.
The three-day Snapdragon Summit will begin on September 23, with Qualcomm expected to showcase its flagship products and innovations on September 24. This year’s event is set to highlight not just the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but also advancements in mobile AI, gaming, and connectivity that will define the next era of smartphone technology.
