Qualcomm has officially launched its latest mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, designed to deliver a powerful performance boost for next-generation smartphones. Positioned just below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the new chipset brings significant improvements in processing speed, graphics, AI, and connectivity for premium and flagship-killer devices.
Built on a 3nm process and featuring the new Oryon CPU architecture, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 combines two prime cores clocked at 3.8GHz with six performance cores running at 3.32GHz. Qualcomm claims the CPU performance has improved by 36 percent over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while GPU performance sees an 11 percent uplift through the Adreno 840 GPU with Frame Motion Engine 3.0 support.
The platform also delivers a 46 percent faster AI performance powered by the Hexagon NPU, enabling advanced on-device AI processing, multimodal tasks, and motion-activated assistant features through the Sensing Hub. Enhanced imaging is provided via the triple-20-bit Spectra AI ISP, supporting Night Vision 3.0, 4K video at 120fps, HDR audio recording, and up to 320-megapixel single camera capture.
Connectivity features include the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System, offering mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G support with download speeds up to 10Gbps and uplink speeds of 3.5Gbps. The FastConnect 7900 system delivers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Ultra Wideband support, while storage support is provided via UFS 4.0.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will debut in the OnePlus Ace 15R, with upcoming devices from iQOO, Motorola, Vivo, and other manufacturers expected to adopt the chipset in the coming weeks. This release marks Qualcomm’s continued push to enhance mobile processing, graphics, AI, and connectivity in high-performance smartphones.
