Rihanna-Led ‘Smurfs’ 2025 Hits Theaters: Streaming Details and Plot Breakdown

Date:

The beloved blue characters are back in a big way with the release of the new Smurfs animated movie, which debuted in theaters on July 18, 2025. Directed by Puss in Boots filmmaker Chris Miller, this reboot brings a bold and adventurous twist to the classic tale. Although fans are eager to stream the film online, the movie is currently exclusive to theaters and not available on any digital platform.

Featuring an all-star voice cast including Rihanna, James Corden, John Goodman, Amy Sedaris, Nick Offerman, Sandra Oh, Daniel Levy, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Jimmy Kimmel, and Natasha Lyonne, Smurfs 2025 is packed with both humor and heart. Rihanna takes on the role of Smurfette, who leads the team into a world beyond their own to embark on a daring rescue mission.

This time, the Smurfs face their biggest threat yet. Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) is captured by not one, but two villains—Gargamel and his sister Razamel. With their leader gone, the Smurfs must join forces, leave their forest, and enter the human world in a mission that will test their courage, friendships, and magic.

As of now, Smurfs is only showing in theaters. Streaming availability is expected after the film’s theatrical run, with Paramount+ being the likely destination since Paramount Pictures is the distributor. However, an official streaming release date has not been confirmed.

At the Los Angeles premiere, John Goodman stunned fans with his dramatic transformation, having lost nearly 200 pounds over the years, adding buzz to the already anticipated film.
