Ryan Coogler has sparked excitement among Marvel fans after revealing that he is actively involved in developing Black Panther 3, strongly suggesting he may return as the film’s director. Speaking at Deadline’s Contender’s Film event, the acclaimed filmmaker shared that the next entry in the Marvel franchise is already in motion, and he hopes to complete the trilogy himself.
Coogler, who recently gained praise for his latest film Sinners, indicated that the third Black Panther movie is likely to be his next major project. His comments were met with enthusiasm, especially as fans have been anticipating clarity about the future of Wakanda following the emotional transition seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The franchise first began in 2018 with the late Chadwick Boseman portraying T’Challa, a role that became iconic before the actor’s tragic passing from colon cancer. The sequel shifted focus to Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who stepped into the mantle of Black Panther while Wakanda faced new global threats.
Is Ryan Coogler Officially Directing Black Panther 3?
During the event, Coogler said, “If it were anybody but you, I would say I can neither confirm nor deny. But we’re working on it hard… Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
His statement, while not a formal confirmation, strongly implies that Coogler plans to helm the project.
Adding to the excitement, Hollywood legend Denzel Washington has been linked to a potential role. Coogler previously expressed his interest in working with Washington, stating, “I’m dying to work with Denzel, and I hope we can make that happen.” According to him, a role for the actor is already being shaped for the upcoming film.
When asked about when production may begin, Coogler hinted that filming could start “not long” from now, suggesting Marvel may already be preparing timelines behind the scenes.
Honoring Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy
Chadwick Boseman first appeared as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War (2016) before leading the groundbreaking first film and later fighting alongside the Avengers in Endgame. After his passing, Wakanda Forever continued his legacy with themes of leadership, loss, and resilience.
While Marvel has not yet revealed the official plot of Black Panther 3, fans expect the story to further explore Wakanda’s future, its leadership, and its expanding role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
