Renowned Japanese filmmaker Masakazu Hashimoto, known for directing several Shin Chan movies, has revealed exciting details about his upcoming film that will take Shin Chan on an adventure through India. The director shared that part of his motivation behind setting the story in India was his own desire to explore the country during the film’s preparation.
During his recent visit to Delhi, Hashimoto recalled how his fascination with Indian cinema began. “The first Indian film I ever watched was Muthu: The Dancing Maharaja, starring Rajinikanth. It became very popular in Japan and since then, I have always felt India would be a great place for Shin Chan’s next adventure. Plus, it gave me a reason to come here for location scouting,” he said with a smile.
Hashimoto, who has directed numerous Shin Chan films including The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers in India, spoke about how the character has matured over time. When asked about the censorship the show faced in India during its early years, he explained, “I wasn’t aware of the censorship concerns here initially, but Shin Chan has evolved a lot in Japan too. It’s not about censoring him but about ensuring what children see is appropriate. Now that I have kids, I understand that what Shin Chan does on screen can influence children’s behavior. These changes have helped the character grow in a positive way.”
The director also discussed why Japanese animation continues to thrive globally while Indian animated films struggle to gain similar success. “There are many reasons,” Hashimoto said. “In Japan, producers create animation with an international audience in mind, so the quality is very high. Indian viewers are also open to global animation content, not just Japanese, but from around the world. That openness keeps anime strong in India.”
Hashimoto’s next film promises to blend cultural charm with humor, marking Shin Chan’s most exciting journey yet—one that connects two vibrant worlds, Japan and India, through laughter and creativity.Shin Chan Masakazu Hashimoto Shin Chan director Shin Chan India Shin Chan movie Shin Chan new film Japanese animation anime director Shin Chan character evolution Shin Chan censorship Shin Chan history Shin Chan India release Shin Chan story Shin Chan Tokyo Shin Chan Hindi Shin Chan popularity Indian animation Indian anime Masakazu Hashimoto interview Shin Chan update Shin Chan upcoming film Shin
