Shreyas Iyer Recovering Rapidly After Spleen Injury BCCI Confirms No Surgery Required

Date:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delivered a promising update on India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a spleen injury during the final match against Australia in Sydney. According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Iyer’s health has improved significantly faster than doctors predicted, and he has now been shifted out of the ICU as his condition continues to stabilize.

The injury occurred at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) when Iyer attempted a challenging running catch to dismiss Alex Carey, resulting in a serious impact to his left rib area. Immediate medical attention was required, leading to hospitalisation.

Saikia emphasized that although initial reports suggested Iyer underwent surgery, the treatment performed was actually a specialized medical procedure to stop internal bleeding, which helped accelerate his recovery. He highlighted that Iyer could return much earlier than the usual six-to-eight-week healing period typically associated with such injuries.

“I’m constantly in touch with our team doctor Dr Rizwan, who stayed back in Sydney to assist Shreyas. His recovery has been quicker than anyone expected. He has resumed basic daily activities and doctors are extremely satisfied with his progress,” Saikia shared.

A medical source revealed that the procedure effectively controlled internal bleeding and that Iyer may continue to remain in the hospital for at least a week as part of precautionary observation.

With this encouraging update, fans and the cricketing community remain hopeful that Shreyas Iyer will make a strong and much-anticipated comeback to the Indian squad soon.
