Sony is preparing to unveil a new addition to its Xperia smartphone lineup on May 13 with the launch expected to feature the much-anticipated Xperia 1 VII. The upcoming flagship is likely to serve as the successor to the Xperia 1 VI which debuted in May 2024. Sony confirmed via its official X account that the new Xperia device will be introduced through a livestream on YouTube scheduled for 4am CEST or 10pm IST.
The teaser poster shared by Sony reveals a silhouette of a smartphone hinting strongly at the Xperia 1 VII. According to earlier sightings on benchmarking platforms a Sony handset carrying the model number XQ-FS54 believed to be the Xperia 1 VII is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The device could ship with 12GB of RAM and run Android 15 right out of the box.
The Sony Xperia 1 VII may also feature a triple rear camera system which includes Sony’s Exmor-T sensor aiming to deliver improved image processing and low-light performance. Leaks have suggested that the handset will be available in three colour options—black navy green and purple. It could also be slightly taller than its predecessor with dimensions of approximately 165mm in height and 74mm in width compared to the Xperia 1 VI’s 162mm frame.
Previously the Xperia 1 VI was powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and offered 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It featured a 6.5-inch OLED display tuned by Bravia with a full-HD+ resolution 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Its camera setup included a 48MP Sony Exmor T main sensor 12MP ultrawide shooter 12MP telephoto lens and a 12MP front-facing camera. A 5000mAh battery with 30W fast charging supported long hours of performance.
If the rumours hold true the Xperia 1 VII is likely to build upon this foundation with enhanced performance display quality and photography capabilities. As Sony continues to refine its premium smartphone lineup the Xperia 1 VII could represent a significant leap forward in mobile innovation and flagship Android experiences.
