Suryakumar Yadav Says Some Things Matter More Than Sportsmanship After India Refuse Handshakes With Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025

Date:

India once again asserted their dominance over Pakistan with a commanding 7-wicket victory in the Asia Cup 2025 clash at Dubai, but the highlight of the night was not just the win. After sealing the game with a six, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates chose not to shake hands with the Pakistani players, making a bold statement in solidarity with the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attacks.

India’s triumph marked their 11th T20I win over Pakistan in their last 14 encounters, underlining the growing gulf between the two sides. Yet, this match will be remembered less for the margin of victory and more for the off-field gesture that spoke volumes about Team India’s unity, resolve, and sense of responsibility.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav explained the team’s stand: “I feel a few things in life are ahead of a sportsman’s spirit. We dedicate this win to all the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and express our solidarity with their families. Our brave armed forces continue to inspire us, and through our performances, we will always try to inspire them in return.”

The Indian skipper emphasized that the decision was not an emotional one, but a united call supported by the government and the BCCI. The Pakistan players looked taken aback at first when India headed straight to the dressing room, but quickly came to terms with the symbolic gesture.

On the field, India barely broke a sweat. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah delivered early blows, reducing Pakistan to 6/2 within two overs. Although Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan tried to rebuild, India’s spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy dismantled the middle order. Pakistan struggled to cross three figures before Shaheen Afridi’s quick cameo of 33 off 16 balls saved them from complete humiliation.

Chasing the modest target, India started aggressively. Young opener Abhishek Sharma smashed 31 off just 13 balls, tearing into Shaheen Afridi’s bowling. Even after losing two wickets, the chase remained effortless as Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube comfortably finished the job, sealing another comprehensive victory.

The Asia Cup 2025 encounter proved that India is not only leading on the pitch but also standing tall off it, with gestures that reflect courage, unity, and respect for the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
