Teen Sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Youth ODI Record With Explosive Start to 2026

Date:

Indian cricket’s newest prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi began 2026 in sensational fashion by rewriting the Youth ODI record books during the ongoing series against South Africa U19. Playing the second Youth ODI at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, the 14-year-old stand-in captain delivered a breathtaking performance that underlined his rise as one of the most exciting young batters in world cricket.

Suryavanshi blasted a lightning-fast half-century in just 15 deliveries, becoming the fastest player ever to reach fifty in Youth ODI history. His fearless innings dismantled the South African bowling attack as he scored 68 runs from only 24 balls, smashing ten towering sixes and a boundary. The knock not only powered India U19 to a crucial advantage in a rain-affected match but also erased an eight-year-old record previously held by Rishabh Pant.

Pant had set the earlier benchmark in 2016 when he struck an 18-ball fifty during the Under-19 World Cup. Suryavanshi’s achievement goes beyond breaking records, highlighting the fearless brand of cricket he brings to the crease at such a young age. Rain once again interrupted play, but India U19 emerged victorious through the Duckworth-Lewis method, securing an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series.

The series serves as vital preparation for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup, scheduled to begin on January 15. India has been placed in Group B alongside the USA Bangladesh and New Zealand and will open their campaign against the USA in Bulawayo. Suryavanshi’s form provides a massive boost ahead of the tournament.

This latest milestone is only the continuation of a remarkable journey. In 2025 Suryavanshi stunned England by scoring the fastest youth-level century in just 52 balls. His exploits earned him a maiden India A call-up for the Rising Stars Asia Cup and global attention during the IPL where he struck a stunning 35-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans becoming the fastest Indian centurion in IPL history. He also represented Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy showcasing maturity beyond his years.

With every innings Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to raise expectations and redefine what is possible for teenage cricketers on the international stage.
