The Mandalorian and Grogu is officially heading to theaters in May 2026, bringing Star Wars fans a brand-new big-screen adventure. Directed by Jon Favreau, known for Iron Man and Chef, this marks his return to directing after The Lion King in 2019. The trailer, recently unveiled by Lucasfilm, offers a thrilling look into the next chapter of the Mandalorian saga.
The story picks up after The Mandalorian series, showcasing Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his apprentice Grogu embarking on a dangerous mission. While the trailer contains little dialogue, it delivers intense action sequences including battles with robotic foes, alien creatures, and a massive AT-AT collapsing down a mountain. Fans also get glimpses of Sigourney Weaver as a fearless pilot and Jeremy Allen White as one of Jabba the Hutt’s offspring, alongside Jonny Coyne as an imperial overlord.
Iconic Star Wars characters make surprise appearances too, with Babu Frik from The Rise of Skywalker and Zeb Orrelios from Rebels joining the mix. The duo even faces off against a Rancor-like beast in an epic arena battle tied to Rotta the Hutt’s storyline.
The highly anticipated movie will be released on May 22, 2026, just in time for summer blockbusters. It will debut in IMAX, promising fans a larger-than-life Star Wars experience. Competing films releasing around the same time include Supergirl, Toy Story 5, Minions 3, Scary Movie 6, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Speaking about the project, Favreau said: “I have always loved telling stories within George Lucas’ universe. Bringing the Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen is an exciting opportunity to expand their journey.”
With its blend of nostalgic cameos, new heroes, and high-stakes action, The Mandalorian and Grogu 2026 promises to be one of the most exciting chapters in Star Wars history.
