Hollywood actor Timothee Chalamet is set to receive a major honour at this year’s David di Donatello awards widely regarded as Italy’s version of the Oscars. The Italian cinema academy has announced that the Dune and A Complete Unknown star will be presented with the honorary David award for his outstanding contribution to international cinema.
The prestigious award recognizing “cinematic excellence” will be given during the ceremony held in Rome where Chalamet will be celebrated for his unique blend of European roots and American artistry. Known for his unconventional roles and influential presence in the industry the actor has become a symbol of both critical acclaim and global appeal.
Italian cinema academy president Piera Detassis described Chalamet as one of the most unpredictable and talented figures in modern cinema. She stated that his performances strike a rare balance between artistic depth and star power making him an icon of contemporary film. Detassis emphasized that this award highlights not only his excellence as a performer in auteur-driven films but also his status as a trendsetter and international figure.
Chalamet’s career reached global prominence through the Italian-directed film Call Me by Your Name helmed by Luca Guadagnino which played a pivotal role in his rise to fame. Since then he has continued to show deep connections with Italian cinema and culture.
His admiration for Italy was evident through his appearances at the Venice Film Festival where he walked the red carpet for Dune Part One in 2021 and later returned in 2022 with Bones and All—another collaboration with Guadagnino. On both occasions his presence generated massive fan excitement as he drew enormous crowds of admirers at the Lido.
As anticipation builds for the 2025 David di Donatello ceremony Chalamet’s recognition reaffirms his role as a transformative force in the film world appreciated for both his artistic integrity and cross-cultural resonance.
