Date:

Movie lovers in the US have a fresh mix of films to explore this weekend as three distinctly different titles arrive in theatres on November 21. Audiences can choose between a sweeping magical sequel set in Oz an intense revenge-driven action adventure and a heartfelt Tokyo-based drama led by Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser. Here’s your full guide to what’s new on screens this week.

Wicked: For Good
The next chapter in the widely loved Wicked universe continues the intertwined journey of Glinda played by Ariana Grande and Elphaba portrayed by Cynthia Erivo. As tensions rise in Oz an enraged crowd hunts the Witch forcing the two women into an uneasy final alliance. Their decisions shape the future of their world with the film exploring themes of loyalty truth and the cost of power.
New additions to the cast include Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s assistants while Sharon D Clarke voices Dulcibear Elphaba’s childhood caretaker. Produced by Marc Platt and David Stone the film follows the major success of the first installment which released in 2024 earned multiple Oscar nominations and pushed the franchise past the 750 million milestone worldwide.

Sisu: Road to Revenge
The gritty action of Sisu returns with Jorma Tommila reprising his role as the unstoppable survivor known for refusing to die. The sequel picks up as he revisits the land where his family was once killed only to discover that the Red Army commander who caused his suffering played by Stephen Lang has resurfaced.
What follows is a fierce chase across forests villages and hostile landscapes. Director Jalmari Helander expands the original film’s rugged tone with more emotional weight and brutal confrontations while keeping the signature intensity the franchise is known for.

Rental Family
The week’s most intimate release comes from director HIKARI with Brendan Fraser starring in a thoughtful drama set in modern Tokyo. Fraser plays an American actor struggling to find direction who accepts a job at a unique “rental family” agency offering himself as a temporary relative for clients.
His routine assignments slowly shift into emotionally complicated situations making it harder to maintain boundaries as he becomes attached to the people he is hired to support. With performances by Takehiro Hira Mari Yamamoto Shannon Gorman and Akira Emoto the film explores belonging identity and the cost of emotional labor.

These new releases deliver a blend of spectacle action and heartfelt storytelling setting the cinematic tone for the weekend ahead.
