Renowned UAE filmmaker Nayla Al Khaja has publicly come forward to support legendary music composer AR Rahman following the criticism he faced over remarks related to Bollywood trends and the film Chhaava. Rahman’s comments, which some interpreted as divisive, sparked debate across social media and entertainment circles, prompting the composer to later clarify his stance and reaffirm his deep respect for India and its culture.
Nayla Al Khaja, widely recognised as the UAE’s first female filmmaker and the director behind the horror film BAAB, shared a heartfelt message defending Rahman, drawing from her personal and professional experiences with him. Having collaborated closely with the composer, she highlighted his humility, kindness, and integrity, stressing that her words were based on real interactions rather than distant opinions.
